Daigaku Rumme Zenshuji Temple 123 South Hewitt Street, Los Angeles, CA 90012 (213) 624-8658 This is a continuation of the "Introduction to Zen" course from August 5 through September 2. Rev. Sekkei Harada is the renowned Zen master of our time, who is currently the head minister of Hosshinji in Fukui prefecture, Japan. This book is based on a collection of his teachings which was published in 1993 in Japan. The study group will be led by Rev. Daigaku Rumme, the head priest of Zenshuji and director of the Soto Zen Buddhist North America Office. Rev. Rumme translated the book from Japanese to English. Rev. Daigaku Rumme: We will be reading The Essence of Zen by Harada Sekkei Roshi in English. We will also sit zazen for 25 minutes following the reading and discussion. I often emphasize "listening, thinking, practicing", a three-step process by which we put Zen into practice and I think this sort of study and sitting is a good way to do this.
Suggested donation is $40 for the series. $15 for temple members. Register by calling Zenshuji at (213) 624-8658 or by email to webmaster@zenshuji.org For further information about Zenshuji Temple, visit the website www.zenshuji.org
