Joe McKeever
It's something of a dilemma: On the one hand, a minister must never put a price on the work he does as he looks to the Lord as the Source for his needs. On the other, he should absolutely be adequately compensated for his work.

Basking in the light of Christ

December 29, 2010

"And you, child, will be called the prophet of the Most High; for you will go before the Lord to prepare his ways, to give knowledge of salvation to his people in the forgiveness of their sins, because of the tender mercy of our God, whereby the sunrise shall visit us from on high to give light to those who sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the way of peace."

Luke 1:76-79

I was never really a morning person. That is, until I moved to Florida. And one thing that started getting me up in the morning was that beautiful sunrise over the ocean. Now when dawn breaks, the sun doesn't suddenly appear in the center of the sky. No, it peaks through the darkness, smiles on the morning, and creates countless beautiful colors before the day begins.

And that's just the way God came, like the dawning of the day, as a gentle baby. God smiled upon this earth and the light of the world began to shine. It wasn't necessarily an explosion. Oh, yes, the heavens exploded with the glory of God when those angels sang. But primarily it was in a humble place that Christ was born and that day, the sun began to rise.

You may have seen some of those old horror movies where the monster is coming toward the helpless victim but you see just a shadow. The shadow would grow bigger and bigger, and then came the substance of that shadow... the monster itself!

Do you know what the substance of the shadow of death is? Eternal death. In this death, there's no light, no love, no hope, and no heaven. And so many people spend their lives sitting in the shadow of death.

But the truth is that the morning has broken and Jesus has come!

What a wonderful salvation we have in the Light of the World, Jesus Christ! Life is no longer dark and depressing. Life in Christ has direction and is full of his light!

CHRIST HAS COME AND THE MORNING HAS BROKEN. SO WALK IN HIS LIGHT!

Our troops need you this holiday season

Please find below a special message from
General Richard B. Myers, USAF, Ret., on behalf of the USO.

Make your At Home in Our Hearts donation today

Dear Friend -

During the next two weeks, while Americans across our country are celebrating with their families, hundreds of thousands of our troops will spend the holidays far away from home, sacrificing to keep us safe.

That's why the USO is working so hard to bring some joy to our troops. And right now, I'm asking you to step up and lead during this particularly meaningful season.

In the weeks ahead, some of our troops will make it home for the holidays. Others will not. We need to make sure they all know they are at home in our hearts.

Step up and join with me in supporting the USO's 2010 holiday campaign with a generous tax-deductible donation.

Make your At Home in Our Hearts donation today

The USO's At Home in Our Hearts campaign is your chance to recognize the remarkable sacrifices and extraordinary challenges our troops face every day - challenges that are especially tough this time of year.

As it does each December, the USO is pulling out all the stops to make sure our troops know they are at home in our hearts. We're doing it with phone cards and internet access so service men and women can stay connected with their loved ones . . . with USO2GO kits full of items the troops have personally selected . . . and more.

These efforts can only succeed with the strong support from generous Americans like you. That's why I'm hoping you'll seize this moment and make your At Home in Our Hearts gift today.

Support our troops with your gift to the USO today.

I know how much your generosity means to all of our troops. And on their behalf, I sincerely appreciate all you have done and all I am sure you will continue to do.

Thank you,

General Richard B. Myers
Former Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff
