Teachers of Japanese language to host Workshop Fall 2010, Nov 7
 
Theme: Introduction to the California Standards: Showing links between the National Standards and California's current Foreign Language Framework.

Keynote Speaker: Brandon Zaslow, Site Director, Occidental College Foreign Language Project
 
Teachers of Japanese in Southern California will present the fall workshop at Notre Dam High School located at 13645 Riverside Drive Sherman Oaks, CA 91423, from 9:00 am - 4:00 pm on Sunday, November 7. 
 
The keynote is "Introduction to the California Standards: showing links between the National Standards and California's current Foreign Language Framework," lectured by Mr. Brandon Zaslow from Occidental college Foreign Language Project.   
 
Mr. Zaslow has been Director of Occidental College Foreign Language Project since 1995
 
Mr. Zaslow currently also serves as Director of the Los Angeles Area Site of the California Foreign Language Project, funded by the legislature to serve teachers of commonly and less commonly taught languages, heritage and native speakers and English language learners since 1995.
 
Mr. Zaslow was born and educated in the United States.
 
He holds graduate degrees in Spanish and Education from the University of California, Los Angeles where he was a University Distinguished Scholar and from California State University Los Angeles.
 
From 1990 to 1995, he held a teaching position in UCLA's Graduate School of Education where he taught Methods of Foreign Language Instruction and Primary and English Language Development.
 
Mr. Zaslow has been repeatedly honored by his colleagues receiving California's Outstanding Teacher Award in 1996, the National Textbook Company Award for Leadership in Education in 2000, being named California Language Teacher of the Year in 2000 and receiving a Distinguished Service Award for Contributions to World Language and Culture Education in 2009.
 
At the national level, Mr. Zaslow is part of the author team of Entre Mundos (Prentice Hall, 1996, 2004, 2012), a program in Spanish for Spanish speakers, and Invitaciones (Vista Higher Learning, 2000, 2004, 2010) a parallel program for non-natives.
 
Pre-registration fee for the workshop is $8 for members and late registration fee for members is $10, and non-members $30. 
 
Lunch is $12.Advance order required.
