In Search of Roots
now accepting applications for 2011 Internships
We are thrilled to announce that the application process for becoming a Roots Intern in 2011 has officially opened.
The Chinese Culture Center's "In Search of Roots" Program involves a yearlong commitment on researching one's Chinese American family history and genealogy. After exploring their Chinese roots in America, participants will explore their roots in China through visiting their maternal or paternal ancestral villages in the Pearl River Delta region of Guangdong Province. The program culminates in a Chinese New Year exhibition of the interns' research at the Chinese Culture Center in San Francisco, where participants share what they have learned with family, friends, and community.
To learn more about this unique, life-changing opportunity, please visit our Roots website here or please write to info@c-c-c.org with "Roots 2011" in the subject line.

The critically acclaimed exhibition now tours to downtown San Francisco! Stella Zhang's site-specific 0-Viewpoint exhibition is re-installed at 575 Sutter Street with some additional new works. Stella Zhang is the featured artist of the 2010 Chinese Culture Center's Xian Rui ("Fresh & Sharp") Artist Excellence Exhibition Series. The Exhibition Series is an annual solo exhibition curated by the Chinese Culture Center to showcase the work of exceptional but under-represented and under-recognized Chinese artist in America. In previous years the Series has featured artists such as installation artist Beili Liu from Austin, Texas and fiber Dora Hsiung from Boston, MA. The Xian Rui Artist Excellence Exhibition Series 2008-2010 was made possible by the generous support of the Phyllis C. Wattis Foundation.
This year's artist, Stella Zhang, was born in Beijing and studied in both China and Japan before moving to the United States where she currently lives in Palo Alto, CA. Zhang's uniquely complex and engaging 0-Viewpoint installation explores the constantly shifting inner landscapes of self and femininity. Her latest work, 0-Viewpoint, which made the debut for Xian Rui 2010, was created to convey the idea that everything came into existence by beginning and ending at zero.
The exhibition if free and open to the public. |
