Introducing the latest artist to join the Nat Geo Music roster: Rene Lopez! The son of legendary Latin trumpeter René López—a founding member of the seminal New York salsa group Tipica 7—Rene Lopez Jr. grew up surrounded by both Latin music and urban pop. His musical education took place in the salsa clubs his father played and on the streets of the city, where he fell in love with rock, R&B and hip-hop. But it was his love of Prince that propelled Rene out from behind his drum kit and in front of the microphone. Now Lopez brings his second generation legacy of Nuyorican soul to funky new places on E.L.S.—short for "Electric Latin Soul"—his innovative new album coming out this month on Nat Geo Music. | |
