This year's opening night film, Masquerades, is
 Algeria's 2009 official entry for the Academy Awards and winner of many prestigious awards including Best Feature at the Dubai International Film Festival and Best Arabic Film at the Cairo International Film Festival.

We proudly present The Gaza Monologues, writings by Palestinian youth in the aftermath of the January 2009 attacks on Gaza and its continued blockade. Part of a global project involving 30 cities, The Gaza Monologues, kicks off on October 17th in Gaza followed by performances around the world, some of which will be connected via satellite. The presentations in the Bay Area are being performed by high school students one of whom will join the culminating international performance on November 29th at the United Nations.

Golden Thread Productions has partnered with Moreau High School in Hayward, Mercy High School and International Studies Academy in San Francisco. The writings will be performed in diverse styles generated by the teens and accompanied by the live singing of Yasmeen Daifallah.
