Nikkei Calendar Date Correction: Little Tokyo vigil on Sept 9 (Thursday) Japanese American civil right advocacy groups to keep a vigil for Muslim Americans' civil right On September 9 (Thursday) at 7:30 pm in front of the Japanese American National Museum, 100 North Central Ave, Little Tokyo, Los Angeles, CA 90012, Nikkei for Civil Rights & Redress, the Japanese American Citizens League Pacific Southwest District, and the Muslim Public Affairs Council in cooperation with the Japanese American National Museum and other groups will keep a vigil to show support for Muslim Americans who are increasingly being subjected to a hateful campaign of anti-Muslim and anti-Islam lies and attacks. The vigil will start at 7:30 pm and will include several speakers, with the entire program lasting one hour. Peace symbols and affirming messages of religious freedom via YouTube and other internet media will be utilized during the vigil. In the statement of the vigil organizer, they say "Despite attempts by Muslim American organizations, mosques, non-Muslim religious leaders, educators and others to educate the American public that true Islam has nothing to do with 9/11 or other despicable terrorist attacks, the perception that all Muslims are terrorists and that Islam preaches terrorism stubbornly remains." The statement is pointing out the incidence in New York last month that a 44-year old taxi driver was stabbed after his passenger asked if he was a Muslim.
