Showing Christ by submitting to authority
December 16, 2010
Be subject for the Lord's sake to every human institution, whether it be to the emperor as supreme, or to governors as sent by him to punish those who do evil and to praise those who do good. For this is the will of God, that by doing good you should put to silence the ignorance of foolish people.
1 Peter 2:13-15
You may have heard the story about Christian Herter, the former governor of Massachusetts. He was running for a second term in office and one day attended a church picnic. As he moved down the serving line, he held out his plate to the woman serving chicken. So she put a piece on his plate and turned to the next person in line.
"Excuse me," Governor Herter said, "do you mind if I have another piece of chicken?"
"Sorry," the woman told him. "I'm supposed to give one piece of chicken to each person."
"Do you know who I am?" he said. "I am the governor of this state."
"Do you know who I am?" the woman said. "I'm the lady in charge of the chicken!"
That little story reminds me that no matter who you are, you always have some kind of authority over you. And God's desire is for you
to submit to authority because he has placed it there for a reason.
God calls us to live submissively in three areas: in submission to him, in submission to the laws of the land, and in submission to one another. Why? We submit because we are powerful testimonies for Christ in this dark world when we have a spirit of submission and show confidence in our true king!
So make submission a way of life and allow God to use your attitude to change the world around you by trusting in him!
LIVE WITH A SUBMISSIVE SPIRIT AND SHOW THE WORLD YOUR CONFIDENCE IN YOUR TRUE KING!
