Riverside Lunar Fest flyer

The Inland Empire Asian Pacific Lunar New Year Festival (Lunar Fest) will take place on Saturday, January 29, 2011, from 10 am to 6 pm in Downtown Riverside, led by major community leaders of Riverside, Inland Empire, and the region as a whole.

Lunar Fest, or Asian Pacific Lunar New Year Festival will be the first of its kind ever undertaken in Inland Southern California.

The festival, an affiliate of the International Relations Council of Riverside (IRC), will commemorate the immense contributions of Asian Pacific Americans to the history of Riverside and the region, from building the railroads, to working the citrus groves, to most recently contributing to international education through Riverside's Asian Sister City relationships via IRC.

Lunar Fest will bring together Riverside's diverse cultural communities, young and old to learn, share, and celebrate the City of Riverside's growing ties to the Pacific Rim.

The Lunar Fest will feature a spectacular parade, with traditional performances in martial arts, song, dance and music.

The Lunar Fest will include cultural trade goods, foods from the Pacific Rim, which will be featured by local small businesses in the Inland Empire. The Lunar Fest will be preceded by a multicultural fashion show and reception with traditional tea ceremonies from several Asian countries  brought to downtown Riverside.

The organizers of the Lunar Fest are also working with other local school districts to promote art, film, music and cultural exhibits from and about our Asian Sister Cities in China, Japan, and Korea.

The Children's Village will be at the Main Library courtyard between the Library steps and the Taiwan Pavilion on Mission Inn Avenue and Orange Street in Downtown Riverside.

The Children's Village will hold such booths as origami, calligraphy, other artscrafts, games, and educational tables to show the children and families from Southern California alike how children across the world learn and keep entertained.
