Trusting God in the storms of life
November 8, 2010
Immediately he made the disciples get into the boat and go before him to the other side, while he dismissed the crowds. And after he had dismissed the crowds, he went up on the mountain by himself to pray. When evening came, he was there alone, but the boat by this time was a long way from the land, beaten by the waves, for the wind was against them. And in the fourth watch of the night he came to them, walking on the sea. But when the disciples saw him walking on the sea, they were terrified, and said, "It is a ghost!" and they cried out in fear. But immediately Jesus spoke to them, saying, "Take heart; it is I. Do not be afraid."
Matthew 14:22-27
Do you remember the story of the Apollo 13 astronauts? You may have seen the movie that came out several years ago. These three men were headed for the moon when all of a sudden, the space module's oxygen tanks exploded, severely damaging the spacecraft. NASA's mission immediately changed from getting the astronauts to the moon to bringing them safely home.
The entire world watched their nerve-racking trip back to earth. These three astronauts placed their hope in a man named Gene Kranz, who was the NASA Flight Director on the ground. For four days, Kranz worked calmly with his team to bring the men home. All the astronauts could do was trust him to make the right decisions! And it was this trust in their commander and direct obedience to his orders that brought them home four days later.
Like those astronauts, circumstances in your life can spiral out of control in an instant. You may find yourself in a situation like the disciples, surrounded by the tumultuous sea of chaos and feeling like there is no hope. But it's in that moment that you must surrender your control to your Flight Director, God, and trust that he knows the right course of action. Then, like the disciples, you will hear God say, "Take heart; it is I. Do not be afraid."
In hard times, allow God to be your commander and trust him to make the right decisions. He will never disappoint!
TRUST IN GOD WHEN THE STORMS OF LIFE HIT AND HE WILL GUIDE YOU TO THE RIGHT PATH.
