Concert Under the Stars:
Kokoro Taiko Kai & Yoko Awaya Conservatory present the Art of Japanese Drumming and the Soul of Japanese Harp and Flute
 
Friday, September 24, 6:30 - 9 p.m.

The Earl Burns Miller Japanese Garden at California State University, Long Beach will host a Concert Under the Stars featuring members of the Japanese music groups Kokoro Taiko Kai and the Yoko Awaya Music Conservatory at 6:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 24.

EBM Japanese Garden Kokoro TaikoKokoro Taiko Kai is a Japanese drumming ensemble based in Long Beach that performs at public and private events throughout Southern California.
 
Yoko Awaya is a 10th degree performer and teacher of the koto, a traditional stringed harp, as well as other Japanese musical instruments and forms.

The evening features drum, koto and shakuhachi flute music along with a bento picnic dinner, wine or sake, and dessert.

Proceeds will benefit the Miller Japanese Garden's educational and cultural activities.
 
Admission is $60 per person for the public and $50 for Miller Garden members and includes free parking.

The Garden is located on Earl Warren Drive on CSULB campus, CA 90815.

New memberships are invited on this occasion. The afternoon event includes: a docent led tour of the Garden followed by Japanese tea and assorted desserts served in the Friends Garden.

Chrysanthemum Show 2010
Green Tea, Autumn Gold & Wine Tasting
Sunday, October 24, 12 - 5 p.m.
 
Develop your own sensitivity to nature through the medium of flowers by viewing a variety of Japanese flower arranging techniques both in vases and as installations in the garden itself.
 
Take pleasure in seeing presenters wearing an exquisite selection of vintage and modern Japanese kimono featuring mums and other fall ornament.
 
Enjoy an exhibit of Japanese tea bowls and accoutrement.
 
Formal tea ceremony will be presented by Madam Numano and the Urasenke School of Tea from 12 - 3:15 p.m. at which time you can have your own cup of powdered tea and traditional Japanese treats.

Wine tasting from 1-4 p.m.
 
Admission: Adult $7, Seniors $6, Members $5, Children 12 & under free
